ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop a LBGT community needs assessment
  • Provide support groups and safe zone for the LBGT youth community
  • Provide cultural and social activities for the LGBT youth community
  • Develop partnerships with community agencies to provide linkage to mental and medical services, substance abuse case management and outpatient treatment, individual and family counseling, and HIV specific treatment for the LBGT youth community
  • Increase the number of LBGT youth educated and tested for HIV, STDs and Hepatitis
  • Provide prevention education presentations on HIV, STDs, Hep C, and PrEP to the LBGT youth and general community
  • Expand public awareness on LBGT youth issues, including bullying and suicide
  • Create activities and presentations that adhered to the EJAF grant requirements and approved by the Director of Youth Programs
  • Attend community events and health fairs to promote the LBGT Youth Program
  • Participate and help organize the Department of Youth Programs’ community events
  • Ensure adherence to department protocols and operating procedures that align the policies and procedures of EJAF and the Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation (CBWF)
  • Form collaborative partnerships with area schools, service providers and community representatives by attending community coalition meetings
  • Submit weekly and monthly reports to the Director of Youth Programs
  • Attend agency, department, and program meetings
  • Submit purchase orders for supplies, timesheets, mileage, and PTO requests to the Director of Youth Programs
  • Be familiar with CBWF programs/services to promote in the community
  • Seek additional funding to sustain the LBGT Youth Program after the expiration of the EJAF grant
  • Other duties as assigned

OTHER SKILLS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducting HIV/AIDS and other prevention education presentations, activities and information dissemination to youth, parents, local agencies, universities, churches and other entities in target areas
  • Develop flyers, postcards, brochures to market the LBGT Youth Program to the community
  • Participating in community events and CBWF special events
  • Assertively communicating and being a team player with positive attitude
  • Identifying areas of need in the Coastal Bend for prevention services
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the Director of Youth Programs

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position requires the employee be insurable and have a current driver’s license with reliable transportation. Personal vehicle will be used 75% of the time with mileage reimbursement. Preferred education/certification: Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work and/or Communications. A minimum of one year relevant experience or sufficient knowledge working with the LBGT youth/family community. Ability to communicate and work effectively with professional personnel and agencies. Working knowledge of HIV/AIDS, life skills and other pertinent subject areas. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of targeted population while projecting a positive image with community and other agencies. Strong skills in documentation and computer skills with Word/Excel/Power Point and Publisher in accordance with EJAF grant requirements and budgeting. Bilingual (English & Spanish) preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Normal work week schedule is from Monday through Friday 8:30AM-5:30 PM. Employee must be available to work some evenings and weekends. A willingness to work flexible hours during times of special projects. Position will require spending several hours standing, driving, presenting, and position may require some light lifting. Work will be performed primarily in schools, offices, public buildings, churches, and automobiles that will vary considerably with regard to the extent of heating, cooling or physical comforts/protections.
