GGBA’S “TALK OF THE TOWN” SPEAKER SERIES The Golden Gate Business Association is proud to announce their 2009 “Talk of the Town” Speaker Series presented by Joie de Vivre Hospitality and Southwest Airlines. This bimonthly program focuses on issues facing businesses of all sizes and gives attendees the opportunity to experience dynamic, informative and interesting presenters. The program is structured so that attendees have the opportunity to network while enjoying the atmosphere and cuisine of each unique Joie de Vivre property. The Center is also home to the Golden Gate Business Association, the 1st LGBT Chamber founded in 1974 . . . Seven years ago this month when San Francisco's LGBT Community Center first opened its doors to the public, it was a building in search of a purpose. SF LGBT Center Supports Queer Business With numerous LGBT agencies already established in the city, center boosters did not want to duplicate social functions or health care services being offered at other locations. The idea was to offer meeting rooms and communal spaces for rent and the LGBT community would program the building itself. It hasn't exactly worked out as intended. We talked about the economy, LGBT buying power and advice for LGBT entrepreneurs . . . How has the economic downturn affected the LGBT buying power? We actually did a survey on this very topic so we do have some interesting insights.  In October of 2007, working with Harris Interactive, Witeck-Combs Communications asked LGBT Americans how the current economic downturn was impacting their household.  We were able to compare their responses to how heterosexual Americans and this is what we found.
